The timer at the top of the Jobs tab shows how much time has been spent on a task in total. This article explains what the number means, how pausing a task affects it, and how it is used when logging a job.
What the timer shows
The timer counts the total time spent on the task, added up across every start and stop:
All previously worked periods are included, and shown as soon as you open the Jobs tab.
While the task is running, the timer keeps counting on top of that total.
While the task is stopped, the timer holds its value — it does not reset and does not keep counting.
Starting the task again continues from where it left off.
What changed
Previously the timer measured only the time since the task was last started. If a technician stopped a task — for a break, for travel, or at the end of the day — and started it again later, the timer went back to zero. The earlier time was still recorded, but it was no longer visible, so it was easy to log fewer hours than were actually worked.
The timer now keeps the full picture on screen, so nothing needs to be remembered or recalculated by hand.
How the timer is used when adding a job
When you add a new job, the duration field is pre-filled with the time that has been tracked but not yet logged to any job — the total time on the task, minus what you have already recorded on it. If everything tracked has already been logged, the field defaults to one hour. The value can always be edited before saving.
Example:
A technician works for one hour and stops the task.
They log a job of one hour.
Later they start the task again and work another 40 minutes.
When they add the next job, the app suggests 40 minutes — the time still unaccounted for.
Where job start and end times are recorded, they are filled in to follow on from the previous job, so consecutive entries line up without gaps.
If the timer still resets after a pause
This behaviour is available in mobile app version 5.4.152 and later. If the timer restarts from zero after stopping a task, update the app from Google Play.
